The artistic director and chief conductor of the State Symphony Orchestra of Turkmenistan, Rasul Gylyjov, was invited to the Northern capital of Russia for the closing of the interstate program «St. Petersburg - the cultural capital of the CIS 2023».

On this occasion, in the Great Hall of the St. Petersburg Academic Philharmonic named after D. D. Shostakovich, with the participation of the CIS Youth Symphony Orchestra under the direction of the artistic director, People's Artist of Russia, laureate of the Stars of the «Commonwealth award» Sergey Skripka, a concert was held dedicated to the memory of the Soviet and Russian conductor, People's Artist of Russia USSR artist Yuri Temirkanov.

During the evening, Murzata Bulbul from Azerbaijan, the representative of Kyrgyzstan Rahat Osmonaliyev and Rasul Gylyjov performed at the conductor's stand. Together with the orchestra, arias and ensembles from famous operas were performed by young soloists - participants in the Bolshoy Theatre youth program, also representing Commonwealth countries.

It should be noted that on the territory of the Commonwealth of Independent States, 2023 was declared the year of the Russian language as a language of interethnic communication. In accordance with this, relevant events were held in cities of the CIS countries.

Also, within the framework of the program «St. Petersburg - the cultural capital of the CIS 2023», festivals, exhibitions, concerts and other cultural events were organized and held to promote intercultural dialogue and improve mutual understanding between peoples.

In this sense, the CIS Youth Symphony Orchestra is a true symbol of cultural cooperation among the CIS member states. The orchestra was organized in November 2007 in the capital of Kazakhstan, Astana, to participate in a concert dedicated to the II Forum of Creative and Scientific Intelligentsia of the CIS Member States. Every year the geography of his performances expands - Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan.

The central event of the gala evening held at the Philharmonic was the transfer of the honorary title of the Cultural Capital of the CIS to Samarkand (Uzbekistan).
