The premiere of the play «Avalanche», based on the play by Turkish playwright Tuncer Cücenoğlu, took place at the Main Academic Drama Theatre. Throughout the entire performance, the tension from the drama of the situation in which the characters found themselves did not let go of the audience for a minute.
In one village, located high in the mountains, people lived in difficult conditions. For three months of the year they could laugh loudly, dance and have fun, and the rest of the year they were under the threat of being buried under an avalanche. Therefore, people spoke in a whisper and did not make sudden movements. At times they wanted to scream from psychological stress, but knowing how it could all end, they could hardly restrain themselves.
The director of this unusual performance is Honoured Cultural Worker of Turkmenistan Eziz Ishangulyyev. An excellent set design was prepared by production designer Maksat Amangylyjov, who presented the audience with a snow-covered section of mountains, with cave-like dwellings, and a huge avalanche that threatens to fall down at any moment and destroy all life beneath it.
Touchingly played the roles of their heroes Dilshat Melayeva (daughter-in-law), Begench Garlyyev (husband), Honoured Artist of Turkmenistan Maya Annayeva (mother-in-law) and Honoured Artist of Turkmenistan Orazgeldi Durdyyev (father-in-law).
An interesting detail is that when the creators of the performance bowed to the audience, stormy applause rang out in the hall, but the actors, taking a step forward, raised their fingers to their lips. They asked the spectators not to make noise, otherwise an avalanche could cover everyone.
The play «Avalanche» will certainly become one of the favourites in the theatre’s repertoire.
