The Russian Geographical Society continues to accept applications for participation in the joint Russian-Turkmen expedition to Myane settlement.
Those wishing to be involved in the study of the ancient archaeological site located in the foothills of the Kopetdag Mountains, on the border with Iran, need to fill out the application form on the RGS website by May 1, 2024.
The expedition to explore the settlement of the first farmers and the secrets of their daily life will take place from September 1 to 30, 2024. The organizers and partners of the project are the Institute of the History of Material Culture of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
Myane settlement is known for the mausoleum and mosque of Myane-baba or Abu Said Mehnei. The architectural complex of the XI - XV centuries was built on the site where, according to legend, there was a khanaka - a hospice and a dwelling near the mosque, which was founded by the great Sufi sheikh Abu Said Abul Khair Mehnei (967 - 1049).
Working at the excavation, the expedition participants will be able to immerse themselves in the world of the mysterious beauty of the Turkmen desert, and in the equipped camp - to get acquainted with the traditions of the Turkmen people and at the same time delve into the subtleties of archaeological science.
