The project "National Musical Instruments of Turkic-speaking Countries" was implemented under a memorandum dated April 17, 2023, between the International Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation and the Baku Music Academy named after Uzeyir Hajibeyli. 

It includes the publication of the atlas featuring 104 traditional musical instruments of six Turkic-speaking countries. The project's goal is to unite the efforts of scientists from Azerbaijan, Turkey, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Kyrgyzstan in studying the history of musical instruments, which largely coincides among these peoples. The atlas reflects the common spiritual values and national traditions. Leading musicologists have actively contributed to the atlas, highlighting the history, development, and existence of national instruments in their articles.

Bahargul Yakubova, head of the "History of Music" department at the Maya Kuliyeva Turkmen National Conservatory, presented materials on the history and current state of Turkmen national instruments. She noted that Turkmen musical culture has deep ancient roots, evidenced by depictions of percussion, wind and string instruments on Parthian rhytons and numerous terracotta statuettes of musicians found during excavations in Margiana, Merv and the ancient Nisa. National musical instruments are widely reflected in Turkmen folklore and epic works.

This is the first time an atlas on musical instruments of Turkic countries is being published, and it is prepared in four languages to reach a wider audience. The atlas is intended for musicologists, performing musicians, folklorists and a broad readership.
