National leader about legendary art of Turkmen carpet weaving

The presentation of the book “The Living Legend” by President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov took place at the Turkmen Carpet National Museum. The substantive work is dedicated to the richest layer of spiritual and tangible culture of the Turkmen people, the unsurpassed art of carpet weaving.

The Turkmen leader donated the first copies of his new book to the Mary Velayat Library during the ceremony of putting the new library building into operation. The first presentation of the colorfully illustrated book published in the Turkmen, Russian and English languages took place during the conference entitled “The Epoch of New Revival is a Wise Continuation of Harmony of Times”.


It is symbolic that the presentation was conducted in the largest exposition hall of the Turkmen Carpet National Museum where the walls are decorated with world-renowned giant carpets. The ceremony brought together the cabinet ministers, the heads of ministries and departments, representatives of the public organisations of the Galkynys National Movement, workers of culture and art, scientists and journalists. Among the guests of honour were best carpet makers from all regions of the country and the members of the delegation of the Humanitarian Association of the World Turkmen, who had arrived in the Turkmen capital to participate in the anniversary celebrations.

The ceremony of awarding the craftswomen of the Serdar carpet factory on behalf of President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov took place within the framework of the presentation. The skilful carpet makers have woven the largest handmade carpet ever created over the history of Turkmen art of carpet weaving for four months to mark the 20th anniversary of independence of the Motherland. The carpet with the area of 378 square metres now adorns the conference hall of the Palace of Congress.

The conference entitled “The Living Legend” by President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov as Imaginary Evidence for the Past and the Winged Aspirations to the Future” was held in the conference hall of the Ministry of Textile Industry. Scientists of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan, the Turkmen National Commission for UNESCO, renowned historians and experts from Russia, Afghanistan, Turkey and other countries of Europe and Asia took part in the conference. Forum participants emphasized that Turkmen carpet weaving was a phenomenon in history, study of culture and art history and underscored its influence on world civilization.
