The play «Moment» dedicated to the poet and philosopher Magtymguly Fragi, whose 300th anniversary was celebrated by all progressive humanity last year, was recently successfully staged on the stage of the National Music and Drama Theatre named after Magtymguly. And now, a week later, the premiere of the play «Gurbannazar Ezizov» took place on the stage of the same theatre, staged in honour of the 85th anniversary of the poet - our contemporary.


The director of both plays is Mekan Jumabayev, who applied the same technique in these productions to revealing the images of poets - through the knowledge of creativity to the knowledge of their characters. There is no analogy - each of the poets is unique in his own way. But in both plays, the starting point for any action is poetry.


The audience gathered lovers of poetry by Gurbannazar Ezizov of different ages. It seems that their number is growing every year. There is an explanation for this - there is no bias in the poet's poems, they are sincere, kind, humane. It is enough to take a volume of his poems in your hands, as the reader immediately turns into another admirer of the talent of Gurbannazar Ezizov. Among the spectators, as guests of honour, were members of the poet's family and close relatives.


The play was staged based on the dramaturgy of the brothers Hydyr and Ylyas Amangeldiyevs, who were personally acquainted with Gurbannazar Ezizov, which undoubtedly left its mark on the play. The prelude to the play was a scene in which the angel of death - a character from the poem «Late Guest» - allowed the poet to review the years he lived. In the last minutes, episodes of an unfairly short, but unusually bright life flashed before the poet's eyes - this is taken as the basis for the play.


The original set design by Honoured Artist Batyr Bekmyradov: a modest desk, behind which sits the angel of death, looking like an ordinary office worker; on the floor are the drafts of poems rejected by the author; above in the sky are three clouds and a tree, which signifies the genealogical tree of life, the tree of poetry and the symbol of holiness.


The creators of the play were especially successful in the scenes of bright, cheerful student life and departure to serve in the army. The scene of the artistic council, whose members occupied the first row of the hall and addressed the poet, who was on the stage, was perceived as unusually creative. They were divided into fierce opponents and defenders of Ezizov's poetry.


The music for the play was written by Honoured Artist of Turkmenistan, composer Rovshen Nepesov. It was performed by the theatre orchestra under the direction of conductor Derkar Jalilov. A wonderful addition to the musical design was the choir of the theatre artists and the Turkmen National Conservatory named after Maya Kuliyeva, as well as the songs performed by the participants of the play. Particularly impressive was the performance of Bayramhan Gayyrov as the singer Atageldi Garyagdyyev.


It is noteworthy that at the end of the performance, all its participants who came out to take a bow sang in chorus a song written by Nury Halmammedov based on the poems of Gurbannazar Ezizov «Shadyyan gun». This fact became a pleasant point in the performance about the beloved Turkmen poet.


The role of Gurbannazar Ezizov was played by actor Dovran Charyyev.
