A comedy full of energy and color

The staff of the Nurmuhammet Andalip State Music and Drama Theatre of Dashoguz velayat has turned to the works of the renowned Italian playwright and theater reformer Carlo Goldoni. Under the direction of B. Hallyev, the theatre is currently working on staging the brilliant comedy “The Chioggia Scuffles”, written in 1761, also known as “The Quarrels at Chioggia” or “The Squabble in Chioggia.”

This vibrant and fast-paced two-act play, full of sparkling humor, depicts the everyday lives and temperaments of the residents of Chioggia, a small fishing town near Venice. Here, the wives, fiancées, and sisters of fishermen pass the time while their men are out at sea. Everything seems ordinary at first, but the usual teasing, joking, and constant rivalry among the women this time lead to a whirlwind of events that affect the relationships of two loving couples. Yet the play ends on a joyful note — with reconciliation and the triumph of love.

“Our theatre troupe stages many productions based on the well-known works of acclaimed foreign authors,” says director Bekmyrat Hallyev. “By turning to the best works of world literature, we aim to contribute to the cause of peace, friendship, and cultural cooperation.” In the production of this new comedy, several of the theatre’s actors are involved, including D. Myadaliev, N. Hydyrova, H. Dowliyev, D. Bekdurdyyev, M. Aristanova, O. Shykhyyeva, and others. The set designer for the performance is Sh. Shykhyyeva. F. Eminov also took an active part in the staging of the play.
