Concert on occasion of Kurban Bayram in Ashgabat
A festive concert in honor of Kurban Bayram will take place in Ashgabat on July 20-21. The concert will take place at the Watan Cinema and Concert Hall on July 20th at 19:00. Famous Turkmen singers - Eldar Ahmedov, Jeyhun Atajikov, Berdy Chovdurbaev and Rejepmuhammet Hodjamuhammedov will take part in the concert. Other famous Turkmen artists - Rahman Hudayberdyev, Govher Hadjimuradova and Mekan Rejepov will perform a concert at the Watan Cinema and Concert Hall on July 21 at 19:00. The concert program will include popular songs.

UNESCO World Heritage Committee opens in China
After a one-year hiatus, the 44th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee, postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic, opens on July 16 in Fuzhou, the capital of the eastern Chinese province of Fujian. The session will continue online until 31 July, combining ongoing work and issues remaining unresolved from last year. The enlarged session will be chaired by Mr. Tian Xuejun, Deputy Minister of Education of China and Director of China's National Commission for UNESCO. The session will consider a total of 45 candidates for inclusion in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Poet-singer Garajaoglan
On hot days of summer, Ashgabat residents spend their evenings in numerous parks of the capital. The green Ylham alley with its numerous fountains and majestic sculptures is especially popular among local residents. At the entrance to the alley, there is a monument to Garajaoglan, one of the brightest folk poet-singers, whose life and creative work testify to the unanimity of the historical and cultural roots of the Turkmen, Azerbaijani and Turkish peoples.

Lagerstroemia’s place under the sun
Gardeners commonly know these plants as crape myrtles, while dendrologists refer to them as Lagerstroemia indica after the Swedish merchant Magnus von Lagerström. Despite its name, the wonderful shrub with a woody trunk originated in China, not in India. But it spread across the Mediterranean coast from India through the enthusiastic and zealous efforts of the merchant von Lagerström. That is why these ‘transit’ plants have their names associated with India.
