The Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan has announced the organization of an Olympiad in Mathematical Modeling among students from higher educational institutions of Turkmenistan.
The Olympiad is scheduled to take place on February 12, 2024, and is dedicated to the Day of Diplomatic Workers of Turkmenistan. The competition is organized by the Department of International Economic Relations of the Faculty of International Economic Relations of the IIR of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
All interested students are invited to participate in the Olympiad, regardless of their field of study and year of education in universities. The organizers recommend universities to select participants for the Olympiad among students who have mastered the following disciplines in their curricula: "Mathematical Modeling," "Economic-Mathematical Methods and Models," "Mathematics for Economics," "Mathematical Programming," "Introduction to Economic-Mathematical Modeling," "Mathematical Methods for Economics," "Methods of Analysis and Optimization of Processes," etc.
Each university can send up to three students to participate in the Olympiad. Information about the participants and their academic supervisor should be prepared by the universities and sent to the organizers by email before January 31, 2024.

The competition will consist of two stages. The first stage will be in the form of a test that includes 50 questions. In the second stage, participants will be given 6 economic-mathematical problems and 4 hours to solve them.
Literary sources mentioned in the competition announcement on the aforementioned website of the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will be predominantly used for the preparation of test questions and problems.
The jury of the competition will consist of one teacher from each participating university, as well as representatives of scientific institutions, enterprises, industries and subject matter experts. The jury will determine the results of the competition based on the total points gained in the two rounds.
The winners and prize winners of the Olympiad will be awarded diplomas of the corresponding degrees. Honorary certificates will be presented to the teachers supervising the students, who are winners and prize winners of the competition.
As reported on the website of the organizing university, the purpose of conducting the Olympiad is to strengthen the understanding of the importance and necessity of studying mathematical modeling, economic-mathematical methods and models in the youth environment in the modern conditions of the national economy development and its digital transformation. The competition aims to identify and reward talented and gifted students, stimulate their scientific activities, deepen their knowledge of the subject, and contribute to the training of highly qualified, well-rounded specialists.
Moreover, the competition's goals include improving training, scientific and educational activities focused on the development of digital economy in the country, introduction of innovations, advanced technologies and production management methods, as well as strengthening effective cooperation between the country's universities in the relevant areas.
The Olympiad is also held as part of the implementation of the "Concept for the Development of the Digital Education System in Turkmenistan," "Concept for the Development of the Digital Economy in Turkmenistan for 2019-2025," and "State Program on the Development of the Digital Economy in Turkmenistan for 2021-2025".
